Global Health and Global Aging
John Wiley and Sons Ltd, Nov 2007, Pages: 400
The book covers the fundamentals of global aging and health and provides real-world models from countries and regions that offer the best practices in current approaches. Global Health and Global Aging presents information about leadership and governance challenges as well as insights about aging in different cultures and countries in all regions of the world.
This edited collection brings together the leading researchers, practitioners, and policy-makers to examine the critical intersection of global aging and global health. The book is organizedin three sections: Policies and Practices; Key Countries with Aging Populations; and What Research Tells Us About the Future of Global Aging and Global Health
Section 1 will cover fundamentals in global aging and health, with chapters that provide real-world models from countries and regions offering the best in current approaches. It will feature contributions from ministers of health from selected countries and leading gerontology experts from a selection of those countries having high longevity rates and/or exemplary programs focussed on their aging population. This section will cover factors that have enabled vast numbers of citizens to enhance and preserve their mental, physical and social well-being--not merely the absence of disease or infirmity--in later life.
Section 2, a look at specific countries and populations at risk, includes contributions from leading global health leaders in gerontology from the academic, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and government sectors in vulnerable areas that have low records of longevity: countries of India, China, Russia,.the Middle East, and the continents of South America and Africa.
Section 3 delves into research findings that identify factors of successful aging and key ways that a global society can influence how we age. Research scholars in global aging and health, finance and pensions, housing, education, employment, transportation and disability, and public policy identify new research that is giving hope and expanding options to young and old for healthy aging.
