National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is engaged in engineering, construction, and operation of power plants. It also provides consultancy in the area of power plant constructions and power generation to companies in India and abroad. The company primarily operates in India.
NTPC recorded revenues of INR325,952 million (approximately $7,223 million) during the fiscal year ended March 2007, an increase of 22.1% over fiscal 2006. The increase was mainly due to a rise in income from sale of electricity (an 11% increase in units sold).
NTPC has an installed capacity of 27,904 megawatts (MW) through its 15 coal-based power plants (22,895 MW), 7 gas-based power plants (3,955 MW), and four joint venture projects (1,054 MW). During the fiscal year 2007, the power stations generated 188.674 billion units of electricity.
