After 10 years the wireline broadband networking market is now approaching maturity. The opportunities to add new subscribers are decreasing in the developed countries where the emphasis is shifting to upgrading the performance of broadband networks using high speed fiber technologies to support IPTV and very high speed Internet data services.

The wireline broadband networks in emerging countries still have significant growth before them, which should continue well beyond 2013. In fact, it appears that the long term wireline broadband opportunities are in these emerging countries.

This report looks at the current state of the broadband networks in 170 countries globally that account for 99 percent of the world’s population. It evaluates the ability of the underlying economy and telecommunications infrastructure in each of these countries to support expansion of their broadband networks as the basis of its forecasts.

Global Opportunities in Wireline Broadband Networks: Analysis & Forecast – 2007 to 2013 sizes the remaining opportunities and identifies where they will be. It shows how broadband opportunities are shifting to both emerging markets and to fiber based services.

The report shows the number of wireline broadband subscribers increasing from 338 million at the end of 2007 to 534 million in 2013. It estimates that the market will be at 87 percent penetration at that time, with a remaining potential for 80 million more subscribers after 2013. It shows where these subscribers will be and how much system spending will be required to support them. It also breaks this system spending down between ADSL and fiber technologies.

“Wireline broadband services have been around for 10 years and have largely fulfilled their promise”, stated Bob Larribeau, Principal Analyst at TelecomView. “However, there is still plenty of air in the balloon. There is a lot of growth coming in the next six years for both ADSL and fiber based services.”

This report provides forecasts to 2013 for wireline broadband subscribers and systems spending in 170 countries globally that account for 99 percent of the world’s population. The report forecast spending for copper and fiber broadband technologies. It provides these forecasts globally and by three regions of developed countries and four regions of emerging countries in order to identify where the opportunities are by both geographic and economic groupings.

This 80-page report addresses these issues and provides the information and analysis that broadband service providers, system suppliers, and investors need to understand for success in the Wireline Broadband market.

This report asks important questions such as:
- Where will the wireline broadband opportunities be and how large will they be between 2008 and 2013?
- Where will the opportunities be after 2013?
- What will the impact be of both fiber to the home (FTTH) and fiber to the node (FTTN) deployments on the broadband market globally and within each region?

This report provides global and regional forecasts that are split into groups of developed and emerging countries. The report includes forecasts of:
- Total broadband subscribers: 2007 to 2013
- New broadband subscribers: 2008 to 2013
- Total spending for broadband systems: 2008 to 2013
- Spending for fiber broadband systems: 2008 to 2013

The developed regions included in these forecasts include:
- Western Europe
- Developed countries in Asia/Pacific
- North America

The emerging regions included in these forecasts include:
- Emerging countries in Asia/Pacific
- Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which includes the former Soviet countries.
- Latin America
- Middle East and Africa

This report includes 43 forecast charts and 20 supporting tables. The report is delivered with an Excel spreadsheet Annex that includes the tables with the data for these charts along with detailed that give the forecast for each of the 170 countries included in the report
