World Nonwovens Industry: Profiles of 20 Leading Producers: Part 2 of 3, 2007/08
Textiles Intelligence, March 2008, Pages: 58
Worldwide sales of nonwoven roll goods continued their mid-single digit growth in 2006, reaching nearly US$16 bn. Of the 2006 total, about 75% of sales, worth around US$12.2 bn, was generated by just 40 producers.
Sales of the 20 medium sized producers profiled in this report—which rank from number 11 to number 30 among the world’s leading companies—ranged individually from US$100 mn to US$225 mn and together accounted for about 18% of the global total.
Companies ranking 11-30 include long established players as well as new ones. Hollingsworth & Vose has been in the business for more than 160 years but Western Nonwovens, Pegas Nonwovens, and Concert Industries are relatively new companies. Recent investments among the 20 companies include new lines in the Czech Republic and Denmark for Fibertex as well as new facilities in China for Toray Saehan. Also, TWE has added four new lines in the last 18 months and is currently building a factory in China, while a new line has come on stream at Hollingsworth and Vose’s Chinese subsidiary. Pegas has added an eighth line and announced plans for a ninth, while Western Nonwovens has added a second line at its site in Clinton, Tennessee.
Ownership changes include the purchase of Companhia Providência in Brazil by a group of four equity funds led by AIG Capital Partners, as well as the acquisition of Colbond by UK-based Low & Bonar and the divestment of Cerex Advanced Fabrics by Western Nonwovens.
In addition to the nine companies already highlighted, this report also includes profiles of Andrew Industries, Asahi Kasei, British Vita, Georgia-Pacific, Jacob Holm, Foss Manufacturing, Japan Vilene, Lydall, Mitsui Chemicals, Sandler, and Toyobo.
