Most of the existing books on sustainability and green construction take either an 'inspirational' approach, or a 'cookbook' approach. Both have their purposes, but this split has created a gap for those who would like to first understand the scientific principles underlying the need for sustainable design, and the design decisions made to meet these goals. This book will be the first to present the scientific principles at the heart of sustainable design. From thermodynamics to fluid dynamics, computational chemistry to models, the examples provided in the practice-oriented books are given a foundation of first principles on which the designer can grow. These principles will be illustrated with practical case studies from the author's own work, helping to demonstrate application of principles in practice.
