Hydrochloric acid or HCI acid, an important inorganic chemical raw material, is widely applied in chemical, medicine, food, leather, sugar-making and metallurgical industries. Besides being chemical raw materials, it is also used as extracting agent and cleaning agent.
The rapid development of China's caustic soda industry and hydrochloric acid downstream sector has provided a good development environment and development space for China's hydrochloric acid industry, making hydrochloric acid production and consumption continuously maintain a steady development. In 2007, China's annual output of hydrochloric acid (including HCL 31% plus) reached 7.48 million tons, rising 6.5% year on year. In the first quarter of 2008, the output of hydrochloric acid continued rising, reaching 1.83 million tons, up 1.6% year on year.
From the perspective of development trend of China's hydrochloric acid industry, chemical industry is the largest user of hydrochloric acid products, whose consumption accounts for about 80% of the total output of hydrochloric acid, followed by machinery and pharmaceutical industries, whose consumption amount to 13% of the total output. China's chemical industry has maintained a momentum of a steady growth in recent years, and its demand for hydrochloric acid will continue to rise at a growth rate of more than 5%. In addition, the rapid development of China non-ferrous metallurgical industry, rolling processing industry and paper-making industry will also become one growth point in hydrochloric acid consumption and their demand for hydrochloric acid is expected to grow at a rate of about 8% in the following several years.
Seen from the long-term development of China's hydrochloric acid industry, gradual increases in production capacity, output and concentration degree of China's hydrochloric acid industry show that the industry has a bright development prospect. In addition, uncertainty regarding prices of water, electricity, coal, gas and transportation and rapid expansion of compound fertilizer of potassium sulfate will have a big impact on production and market supply of China's hydrochloric acid industry.
