The HSDPA/HSPA addition to 3G networks has taken the world by storm and Telstra has been one of the global leaders in this development. Within a year the market has attracted over one million mobile broadband customers. Its success has been the death nail to any mass market opportunities for WiMAX. While Telstra is maintaining premium prices, those from its competitors have come down significantly. A rapid deployment of low cost data access packages has propelled HSDPA right in front of the mobile broadband developments. From here the developments will move towards IP based upgrades such as LTE, but a full deployment of this technology will not take place before 2012-2015.
