The Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act came into force in the USA in 2002. It was designed to address corporate accounting scandals and restore public confidence in the stock market. The Act mandates strict financial reporting standards for organisations that are listed on US stock exchanges or have a US-based parent company. This includes many telcos based in Europe.
