A word from the author:
“Poland’s continuing strong economic growth, increasing investment activity and rising disposable incomes foster the development of the IT industry. Higher salaries and growing affluence of Polish consumers contribute to the fact that over the last several years sales of computers – laptops and desktops – have been breaking new records. IT equipment is the main driving force behind the Polish IT market, generating a half of the industry’s value.
Software makers, especially those specializing in products and services to small and medium-sized companies, also point at a notable improvement of the business climate, evident in the two-digit growth of IT suppliers’ revenues. Certain signs of revival can be seen in the segment of public tenders held by state and local governments authorities. The latter start to pay more attention to investing in something more than just purchase or exchange of hardware.
To sum up, the Polish IT market is strong. Yet, it has to deal with the rising cost of salaries, shortage of staff, falling margins and problems with profitability. Companies listed on the WSE may also be concerned about the decline in their share prices, caused by the slump in world markets. On the other hand, maybe all these phenomena make it an opportune moment to effect mergers and acquisitions or can encourage large foreign players to enter the Polish IT market.”
