One of the most awaited strategies in the middle-tier software space has been Oracle’s plan to integrate the acquired BEA product suite and organization, a plan Oracle laid out on 1 July 2008. The vendor outlined three paths (strategic, ‘continue & converge’ and maintenance) for various parts of the combined product sets, which will all fall under the Oracle Fusion Middleware brand. Oracle made the right choices to keep BEA’s customer base satisfied. It will be interesting to see how Oracle will absorb not just BEA’s products but also its more aggressive approach to technology, starting with the microService Architecture (mSA) based on OSGi, the up and coming middleware component model.
