China blood products industry is all along comparatively independent from global blood products industry. In the year of 1986, according to the rules from Ministry of Health, China prohibited the import of blood products except HAS. However, since 2002, HAS import had been also prohibited from BSE disease regions.
Considering the short supply of domestic blood products, in May 2008, State Council of China adjusted the import tariff of HSA products from 3% to zero during 1st Jun 2008 to the end of Dec 2008. However, due to the HAS price in China market lower than international market, foreign companies are seldom willing to export.
China has totally 33 blood products manufacturers. In the year of 2007, the blood products market scale in China was about CNY 6 billion. China has a great demand for albumin, due to the large number of liver disease patients; the other blood products also have a considerable demand in China such as gammaglobulin, immunoglobulin and plasma thromboplastin component.
