Renewable energy effectively uses natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat, which are naturally replenished. Renewable energy technologies range from solar power, wind power, hydroelectricity/micro hydro, biomass and bio-fuels for transportation.

In recent years, about 19% of global final energy consumption came from renewables, with 13% coming from traditional biomass, like wood-burning. Hydropower was the next largest renewable source, providing three percent, followed by hot water/heating which contributed 1.3%. Modern technologies, such as geothermal, wind, solar, and ocean energy together provided some 0.8% of final energy consumption. The technical potential for their use is very large, exceeding all other readily available sources.

Renewable energy technologies are sometimes criticized for being unreliable or unsightly, yet the market is growing for many forms of renewable energy. Wind power has a worldwide installed capacity of 74,223 MW and is widely used in several European countries and the USA. The manufacturing output of the photovoltaics industry reached more than 2,000 MW per year in 2006, and PV power plants are particularly popular in Germany.

Renewable energy is an essential part of Europe’s low emissions energy mix and is important to Europe’s energy security. It plays a strong role in reducing Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions. Many European Governments’ support for renewable energy assists industry development, reduces barriers to the national electricity market, and provides community access to renewable energy.

Aruvian Research presents an in-depth analysis of the European renewable energy industry. In its research report – Analyzing the European Renewable Energy Industry– Aruvian takes a look at this superbly charged industry which is growing at a breakneck speed throughout Europe.

Starting off with a basic overview of the global energy industry, research by Aruvian focuses on the global renewable energy industry. A market profile, global market capacity, market-wise analysis, GHG emissions, challenges facing the development of the renewable energy market worldwide is all analyzed in this section. Following on from this, a section is dedicated to analyzing the global policies which have been essential in promoting the development of renewable energy in the world. Policies analyzed in this section include the US Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act (PURPA) of 1978, policies related to cost reduction, renewable energy certificates, transportation of biofuels, amongst others.

Case studies from the global renewable energy industry focus on the market developments in China, India, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Research then moves on to an analysis of the European renewable energy sector. From here onwards, this highly comprehensive research report includes data on the following (among others):

- Comprehensive Industry Definitions, including definitions of biomass & waste, hydropower, geothermal energy, and other segments of the renewable energy industry.

- An analysis of the regulatory framework in place as related to renewable energy development in Europe.

- A theoretical and statistical analysis of the EU Market for renewable energy by type, by country and by final energy consumption.

- An analysis of the various renewable energy sources by country and by type of energy source.

- A look at the challenges facing the development of renewable energy sources in Europe.

- A PEST Framework Analysis of the European Renewable Energy Industry.

- Then starts the country-wise analysis of renewable energy markets in Europe. This section covers 27 countries across Europe and takes a look at the renewable energy market in each country.

Moving on, major industry players such as DONG Energy, Iberdola, Gamesa, Vestas, Suzlon, EDF, etc., are also profiled in the Aruvian’s Analyzing the European Renewable Energy Industry.
