Controlling Environmental Pollution is a new introductory textbook designed for a one-semester course in environmental technology. Created to appeal to a range of students, it combines lucid presentations of environmental technologies with fascinating stories and biographies illustrating milestones in environmental science and engineering.

This book will speak to students of various majors and backgrounds. By telling the story of how pollution evolved into the complex problems societies face, it draws the readers' attention to the technical solutions currently used by scientists and engineers. These technologies are not sugarcoated—they are laid out in step-by-step detail. Where necessary, simple calculations are presented, to help students see how environmental experts conceptualize levels of water, air, and even noise pollution.

End-of-chapter discussion points and problems help students and professors engage problems identical in principle to those faced by environmental specialists throughout the world.

At the same time this book analyzes the issues. It provides both the economic and ethical concepts to understand the costs of using current capacity to save future resources.

This unique text explains the methods for understanding the environment, the practices for solving problems, and the personalities and events that have inspired both theory and practice.

Features

- A unique introductory text for environmental studies

- For students of all majors

- Clarifies water, wastewater, and hazardous materials technologies

- Packed with anecdotes and biographical sketches
