Application virtualization is evolving from more mature virtualization technologies, and while it may be young, it is already production-ready, with EMA research showing broad adoption for production use cases in enterprises of all sizes, including Small and Medium Businesses (SMB), which represent an even larger growth area than larger enterprises.

The use cases and benefits of application virtualization are particularly compelling. It specifically addresses major concerns around critical areas such as provisioning and migration, application delivery, data protection and security, disaster recovery (DR or DRP) and business continuity (BCP), resource flexibility and mobility, and governance and compliance.

It also solves many unique problems specific to mid-market/SMB organizations. For example, it maximizes the utility of restricted IT staffs, skills, and budgets. It allows better use of mobile, temporary, contract, and home-based resources, while still providing tight controls, without sacrificing flexibility. It allows greater cooperation with agents, partners, and channels, and supports a wide range of technology – even some outdated environments that SMB organizations cannot (or cannot afford to) change.

This EMA White Paper examines these use cases and outcomes in more depth, especially how application virtualization addresses the unique needs of SMB or mid-market organizations, as part of a broader strategy for virtual and traditional applications. It also highlights how KACE addresses the need for comprehensive virtual and traditional application management.
