Gas and Diesel Gensets Market in Russia
Frost & Sullivan, Jan 2009, Pages: 62
Russia Gas and Diesel Genset Market Offers Growth Opportunities despite the Current Economic Slowdown
The Russian genset market has seen a steady exponential growth in the last few years. However, the global economic crisis may reduce the number of new orders for 2009 and 2010. On the other hand, the demand, mainly from industrial and commercial segments is forecasted to stay positive. 'The oil and gas sector in Russia witnessed over twenty per cent increase in investments in 2007 in comparison to 2006,'notes the analyst of this research. 'Despite a slowdown due to the financial crisis and falling oil prices, this sector will continue to be a key driver for gensets.'
Most of the power generation equipment in Russia has exceeded its operational ‘useful life’ limit, with over sixty-five per cent of the equipment installed before the eighties. This has increased the risk of technological failures and decreased the stability and security of power supply. Accordingly, new gensets will be a necessity. Moreover, Russia still has many territories not covered by the grid, where gensets are required. The Russian gensets market, over the past few years has been greatly driven by the development of the oil and gas sector. While Russia needs innovation and investment in this particular sector, the future largely depends on the potential impact of the global economic slowdown and the consequent decline in oil and gas prices, which will result in lower demand and fewer orders for gensets. Despite being caught in the grips of the global financial turmoil, the oil and gas sector will start growing again at a stable, but considerably lower growth rate in the medium to long term. It will, therefore, be the main driver of growth for the gensets market.
The impact of the global crisis is uncertain, especially in the medium-to-long term but will affect the Russian gensets market in general. Moreover, the demand for gensets, especially in the lower output ranges and in certain end-user applications, will be most affected by the economic slowdown. However, despite the economic turmoil, waves of new opportunities in this market are set to open up in the not too distant future. From 2011, the genset market will start growing at a stable growth rate of nine to twelve per cent per annum.. 'Considering the situation of lower oil prices and the current financial crisis, gensets manufacturers can anticipate significant decline in demand,' concludes the analyst. 'Promisingly, these turbulent times will end by 2011 and manufacturers will experience positive returns from this market.'
