Sukuks Manual
Islamic Capital Partners, May 2008, Pages: 22
‘Sukuk’ (plural of Sak) is an Arabic word which means ‘certificates’. Sukuk are defined as certificates of equal value representing undivided shares in ownership of tangible assets, usufruct and services or (in the ownership of) the assets of particular projects or special investment activity.
Recent innovations in Islamic finance have changed the dynamics of the Islamic finance industry. Especially in the area of bonds and securities, the use of Sukuk or Islamic investment certificates have become increasingly popular in the last few years, both as a means of raising government finance through sovereign issues, and as a way of companies obtaining funding through corporate Sukuk.
