Major US-based companies include Veolia Environmental Services North America and Tetra Tech, as well as the environmental and consulting divisions of large engineering and construction firms such as AECOM, Bechtel, and CH2M HILL. Other major companies include AMEC Earth & Environmental and Golder Associates (both based in Canada), Environmental Resources Management (the UK), and Arcadis (Netherlands).
Worldwide, the environmental consulting industry generates about $27 billion in revenue annually, according to Environment Analyst. Growth is expected to come from Africa, China, India, and Southeast Asia. The US and Western Europe are major markets for environmental consulting services but are seeing slow growth in demand.
The US environmental consulting services industry includes about 10,000 establishments (single-location companies and units of multi-location companies) with combined annual revenue of about $11 billion.
Demand is driven by the needs of businesses and government agencies to comply with new, existing or anticipated environmental laws and regulations.
