The US fitness centers industry includes about 27,000 companies and nonprofits in the US that operate about 30,000 fitness and recreation centers with combined annual revenue of around $22 billion. About 2,600 centers are operated by YMCAs. Low growth is forecast for the industry over the next two years. Demand is driven by consumer spending and desire to be fit but is negatively impacted by high member attrition, seasonality, and the aging population.
