Companies in this industry operate hair salons and barbershops that provide shampoo, haircuts, beard trimming, and hair coloring and styling services. Major companies include Premier Salons, Regis, Ratner Companies, and Sport Clips (all based in the US), as well as Frisör Klier (Germany) and TBC Group (Japan).
The US hair care services industry includes about 86,000 establishments (82,000 beauty salons; 4,000 barber shops) with combined annual revenue of about $20 billion. Consumer expenditures on hair care services are expected to be low over the next two years. Demand is dependent upon consumer spending.
Demand is partly driven by demographics and partly by population growth. The profitability of individual companies depends on technical expertise and marketing skills.
