Excerpt

Until the credit crunch hit globally in the middle of 2008, the Islamic finance business had enjoyed uninterrupted growth since the start of the decade, to become an industry with between US$500bn and US$1 trillion of assets depending on the sources that you use. In terms of the size of the world’s finance industry as a whole though, this is still very small, with less than 1% share, but with nearly 25% of the world’s population being Muslim, it is obvious that the potential for future growth is still enormous. - by Simon Eedle, Calyon – Credit Agricole CIB
