Applying Semantics to Portals
Ovum, May 2009, Pages: 7
Many enterprise information portals (EIPs) are the technical manifestation of older knowledge management (KM) and newer Web 2.0 collaborative initiatives. It’s therefore not surprising that semantic web technologies, which provide a common framework that allows data to be shared and reused across application, enterprise and community boundaries, are being applied to EIPs. Implemented correctly, semantic technologies - notably ontologies - can improve results’ relevance in one of the most important components of an EIP - the search mechanism. This allows for integrated and syndicated views on data using ontological semantic descriptions.
