The Excellence in Retail Financial Services Programme 2008

The Excellence in Retail Financial Services Awards Programme was instituted in 2002 to recognise financial institutions in the Asia Pacific Region which have excelled in meeting the needs of the region’s retail financial services customers and to build a repository of evolving best practices from which players can benchmark their own products and processes over the long term.
The programme has been built on the premise that an outstanding institution in the retail financial services industry demonstrates a long-term sustainable franchise, based on strong business processes that lead to a consistent and profitable performance.
Now in its seventh year, The Asian Banker Excellence in Retail Financial Services Programme continues to be the most well developed research-based programme in the region for discovering the best retail financial institutions, products and processes. Through Special Awards, the programme also recognises outstanding initiatives in key strategic areas that are crucial catalysts in the financial services arena. We now recognise the pursuit of excellence amongst retail financial institutions across 23 countries and 57 award categories.
All the major retail banks in the Asia Pacific, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Central Asia regions are evaluated in the programme. These institutions are judged on their ability to negotiate present and future challenges in the marketplace based on a ten-dimensional scorecard that covers strong core retail balance sheets, sound risk management systems and processes, and transparent strategies, amongst others. By far the most transparent and comprehensive evaluation programme in its category, the Excellence Programme also involves an international panel of distinguished experts on consumer banking.
