The Sustainable New Home in 2008
Connection Research, Jan 2008, Pages: 116
There are approximately 7.6 million households in Australia, each with different types of family, single people, and amorphous groups. Every year about 100,000 new homes and about 50,000 flats or apartments are built.
Australians are a mobile lot with a majority of the population moving house because they want something better, or at least something more appropriate. Reasons for moving differ, having no two people move for the exactly the same reasons but through examining a large enough number of them, we can get some idea of the relativities of these many factors.
This report attempts to quantify some of the features that people look for when they move house. Based on a survey of over 1200 Australian households who say that they will “definitely” or “probably” buy or build a new home in the next 12 months, it examines a range of technological, ecological and social issues that people might consider in a new dwelling.
