The operating margin of the top 10 companies was 4.7% in 2008 as compared with 5.2% in 2007. The net margin was 2.5% in 2008 as compared with 2.9% in 2007.
Since 2004, the global general multiline retail industry has posted strong growth rates. However, the industry is forecast to decelerate considerably and record a negative growth rate in 2009; it is expected recover towards 2013.
