The Survey of American College Students: Computer Technology Preferences & Purchasing Plans presents data from a survey of more than 400 American college students. The report presents data on student computer ownership of both pc;s and laptops, purchasing plans for pcs and laptops, as well as purchasing plans for cell phones and digital cameras. The report also provides details on how student finance their computer purchases, how much money comes from parents or guardians, and how much from the student themselves, or from their parties. In addition to data on pc,s the report provides detailed info on use of popular word processing packages such as Word, WordPerfect and Open Office.
Just a few of the report's many findings are that:
- Nearly 93% of the students in the sample owned a computer.
- Younger students were far more likely than older students to own a laptop; only 64% of students over 30 had a laptop while more than 86% of students 19 years old or younger had at least one laptop.
- Liberals were far more likely to prefer Macs than those who describe themselves as conservative or as very left wing. Nearly 28% of liberals prefer Macs while 9.42% of those on the far left prefer Macs and only19.23% of conservatives did so.
- Nearly 62% of the students in the sample have ever listened to or viewed a podcast or webcast.
