The Russian market of aluminum sections in January-October 2008 was demonstrating a stable development dynamics. According to different expert estimates, in 2008 the market growth was about 15% annually in relation to the previous years.

The Russian market of aluminum sections is characterized by the prevalence of domestic manufacturers. The share of domestic manufacturers in the total market volume in 2008 was about 85%. In the last several years, the leaders in manufacturing aluminum sections have been the following companies: RASSTAL (CJSC Tatprof), LLC Agrisovgaz (AGS), LLC Realit, OJSC Energotekhmash, ASK RUSAL – LLC RusAlyumStroy.

The share of the import in the market volume during the period under study was about 18%. The main volume of the supplied aluminum sections in the total import structure in 2008 fell at the products manufactured in China, Germany and Italy. As regards range segmentation, the segment of architectural sections retains its leading positions in the market structure. Its share in the market volume made 52.9%. According to some expert estimates, in the nearest future the share of architectural sections will decrease by 10-15% due to the reduction in construction volumes. The segment of interior sections makes 24% in the total market volume. According to expert estimates, the share of interior sections will continue growing due to the support from private consumers (finishing materials for apartments, offices, stores, etc.).

In October-December 2008, due to the global financial crisis, there was the decline in both the manufacture and the consumption of aluminum sections, which made, according to different expert estimates, from 30 to 50%. The future development of the aluminum sections market will depend on how quickly the Russian economy overcomes the crisis and its consequences, as well as on the measures to be taken by the RF Government in order to support and stimulate the development of the country’s industry.
