This book contains the proceedings of the “Advances in Biomedical and Biomimetic Materials” symposium, held in 2008 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Presentations were given on recent developments in biomedical and biomimetic materials, including scaffolds for tissue engineering; bioceramics; biomimetic materials; surface modification of biomaterials; metallic implant materials; nanoparticles for medical diagnosis and treatment; as well as novel materials for drug delivery and biosensing. This symposium enabled discussion among the many groups involved in the development and use of biomaterials, including materials researchers, medical device manufacturers, and clinicians.
