eHealth NOW: Alberta Update

Branham Group, October 2008, Pages: 8

Alberta has been the grounds for a great deal of change in 2008. The Alberta Health Services Board has replaced the nine Alberta regional health authority boards, the Alberta Mental Health Board, Alberta Cancer Board and the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC). In the midst of the changes, a number of initiatives are continuing as originally planned. Alberta is one of the most advanced provinces in terms of its progress toward a complete provincial EHR. It is anticipated that by March 2009 Alberta will have reached 100 per cent deployment levels for the client registry, provider registry, diagnostic imaging, and drug and lab systems. Funding for Alberta Health and Wellness is up $1.3 billion (10.6 per cent) in 2008-09 for a total of $13.4 billion.
