Joint British Societies’ Guidelines on Prevention of CVD in Clinical Practice (JBS 2)
Just Medical Media, July 2006, Pages: 8
Despite all the efforts to reduce cardiovascular risk, CVD remains the leading cause of premature death and disability in the UK. The second JBS guidelines, published in December 2005, were designed “to promote a consistent, multidisciplinary approach to managing patients with established atherosclerotic CVD and those at high risk of developing symptomatic atherosclerotic disease”.
The JBS 2 guidelines emphasise a total risk approach to CVD risk assessment in the asymptomatic population and define lifestyle and risk factor interventions with thresholds and targets that reflect the growing scientific evidence base for managing people at high risk.
