Agriculture remains one of the most important industries in the countries of Southeast Europe and has to some extent protected them from even worse effects of the global economic crisis. However, most of them face a huge development gap when compared with other European countries. This report estimates the size of the agriculture and food manufacturing industry in 11 countries. Their potential is estimated to be larger than that of France or Italy, but the reality is that their low productivity and obsolete production means (and organisation of companies) will need decades to catch up with them. The report includes the data for top 10 food manufacturing companies in the region and top companies in each country.
