AIMS & SCOPE
Hallym University has been designated by the Korean Government as a university specializing in studies on aging and has received research funding. For the first time in Korea, both Undergraduate and Graduate Schools of Hallym University have established courses on Gerontology and Geriatrics. Hallym University has become the center for research and education on aging in Korea.
The University publishes foreign countries’ research findings in the field of social and behavioral sciences carried out in Korea and contributes to enhancing the domestic research level through academic and research exchanges with foreign scholars. Considering the cultural characteristics of Asia toward the aged, Hallym University plans to focus research on Family and Community Care.

Hyunsook Yoon
With a graduate degree from the School of Social Work, University of Washing, Hyunsook Yoon received her doctoral degree in the field of gerontology at Ewha Women’s University (Seoul, Korea). Starting her professional career as a social worker for hospitalized elderly and troubled families, Yoon now teaches social work and gerontology at Hallym University and directs the gerontology and geriatrics program there.
Jon Hendricks
Jon Hendricks is Associate Provost and Professor of Sociology at Oregon State University. He is a past-president for the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education, and has served as chair for both Sociology of Aging & the Life Course section, American Sociological Association, and the Behavioral and Social Sciences section of the Gerontological Society of America. Hendricks has published extensively in gerontology and is the series editor for the Society and Aging series (Baywood Publishing Co., Inc.), co-editor-in-chief of Hallym International Journal of Aging and serves on the editorial boards of four other journals. He is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and Association for Gerontology in Higher Education. He has received the Distinguished Career Contribution Award as well as the Kalish Innovative Publication Award from the Gerontological Society of America, and the 2004 Tibbitts Award from the Association of Gerontology in Higher Education. In 2008 he was named the top-researcher in the Gerontological Society of America and honored with its Robert Kleemeier Award.
