Asia-Pacific Dominates Worldwide FTTX Deployments
Ovum, Nov 2009, Pages: 7
Asia-Pacific remains first among all regions in FTTx subscribers, whether deployed over point-to-point active Ethernet or PON. China is getting very aggressive with its investments in FTTx installations. Singapore is on track to meet its commitment to have 95% of all homes, businesses, and schools passed with fiber by 2012. The Malaysian government has awarded Telecom Malaysia $3.4 billion for deploying FTTH/FTTB. In India, BSNL’s most recent FTTx tender is for 700,000 homes; the operator intends to connect 7 million subscribers by the end of 2015. In April 2009, Australia’s government announced it was not going forward with FTTN plans but will go forward with FTTH instead, with an investment of AU$43 billion. In March 2009, New Zealand’s government announced it was going to invest NZ$1.5 billion and seek an additional NZ$1.5-4.5 billion from the private sector to connect 75% of the population with fiber. No time frame was given for this.
