This article will provides SMBs with a better understanding of the different solutions available and questions to ask from VARs, vendors, and service providers when evaluating the different alternatives. For the vendors, service providers, and VARS — this lays out a market segmentation framework that can be used to develop product strategies and executable go-to-market strategies. Whatever solutions and vendors SMBs choose, most companies will eventually move to VoIP in the next 5 years.
The perceived complexity of the IP telephony solutions and confusion created by different types of IP telephony solutions coupled with the lack of IT resources at SMBs (especially ones that understand voice communications) is causing confusion and delay in SMBs moving to VoIP.
IP (Internet protocol) telephony — also known as Voice over IP (VoIP) — is becoming a key driver in the evolution of voice communications. VoIP technology is useful not only for phones but also as a broad application platform that enables voice interactions on mobile devices, desktop computers, smartphones, and many industry-specific devices with applications specific to those businesses where voice communication is an important feature.
