China's Adipic Acid Market Analysis Report 2009 (Chinese Version)
Puworld.com, Dec 2009, Pages: 250
As newly-built adipic acid facilities successively came on-stream, the production capacity for adipic acid in China reached around 500kt/y in 2009. However, due to the severe impact from the global financial crisis, downstream PU coatings and sole resin industries suffered a lot, as export volumes of synthetic leather and footwear continued waning. The whole market was more competitive against an oversupply background, and whether production capacity surplus would occur became the focus of debate among PU players. Meanwhile, PetroChina Liaoyang Petrochemical, who represented China’s adipic acid industry applied for an anti-dumping investigation on adipic acid from US, EU and South Korea.
Most end-users were not inclined to do make large purchases, citing the high security deposit ratio and upward feedstock price pressure, and total import volumes thereby dwindled a lot. Changes in the marketing strategy of Invista resulted in a massive facility turnaround, and the shutdown of a 300kt/y facility. Supply remained extremely tight at European and American markets in 2009 while price shot up to a new high. Will China’s adipic acid market find a new way of development? This report will delve into these questions with specific analysis and accurate figures.
