CA Steps up IT Service Management Strategy - Acquires Oblicore

On January 11, 2010, CA announced the acquisition of Oblicore, a leader in the service level management (SLM) and business service management (BSM) market space. Founded in 2000, Oblicore was a privately held company known for its top-down, business-oriented approach to defining and managing services. Oblicore Guarantee, current release 6.0, enables organizations to establish service level agreements, manage to those agreements and optimize service delivery based on performance. Oblicore is a strong contender in the service provider market and also has a presence within enterprise IT. To its credit, Guarantee takes a strong top-down approach in defining and managing service quality levels and builds upon existing management data in each customer environment.
EMA analysts recently conducted an IT user-based study, The Responsible Cloud. This study shows that service management and particularly the ability to define and manage service contracts, present them to user populations via a service catalog and track related costs is a core technology for succeeding in Cloud computing. Oblicore’s solutions extend CA’s capabilities for Cloud management in both vendor management and service quality assurance. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
