This report provides an insight into experiences, perspectives and plans of local councils in Australia with respect to their Disaster Recovery (DR) capabilities. Many local agencies recognise that advances in IT, including virtualization, provide them with an opportunity for a rapid upgrade of their DR. However, the progress in this area will depend on the success of dealing with organizational issues local councils face, such as the disruptive organizational impact of the DR testing and lack of internal resources with necessary skills.
