B2B Research Company has conducted a market research and a review of the Russian market of soy and soy products.
The Russian market of soy and soy products, according to different expert estimates, grew in 2008 by 20% in relation to year 2007. The largest share in the market structure in 2007 was covered by imported products (about 57% of the market volume). However, domestic manufacturers started to severely compete with international manufacturers in the period under consideration. The share of home-made soy and soy products in the total market volume was at the level of 43%. The main parameters in which Russian manufacturers used to compete with foreign suppliers were good technological characteristics of imported products. Foreign manufacturers had certain advantages in the quality of their products.
The dominant share in the total market volume was covered by the segment of soybeans and products made during soy processing (about 80% of the market share). The second place in the market volume was enjoyed by soy oil – about 15%. During the global financial crisis, the further development of the market of soy and soy products depends on the efforts made by different parties, including the stabilization measures taken by the Government and market regulators. In September-October of 2008, the state took several measures meant to urgently stabilize the situation, support the banking sector, liquidity, overcome difficulties connected with providing loans to industries and agriculture, insure bank deposits of the population.
