Le Web 2009: Conference Highlights
Research 2.0, Jan 2010, Pages: 5
1) Payments are poised to become more fluid and distributed on the mobile Internet thanks to new features coming to PayPal and start-ups such as Square. 2) Facebook Connect has emerged as the “Web passport” that has been envisioned and attempted by players such as Microsoft and Google. This is a big win for Facebook. 3) Mobile applications are changing rapidly and combining device features with social networking and location to create new hits such as foursquare and gowalla. We believe this is just the tip of the iceberg. 4) Apple was not at the event, but its products were there in force. Apple’s market share among this group of about 2,300 people was 62% (1,827 of the 2,937 network-attached devices). 5) Twitter’s positioning is getting clearer as the infrastructure provider for short-message-based services based on the publish/subscribe model. Google benefits from this more than any other company.
