Highlights of this title
High pump prices saw service station fuel consumption decrease in Denmark by 4% in 2008. The total vale of fuel sales, however, increased by 8% over the same period and the average fuel spend per registered car increased by 6.7%, from EUR2,359 to EUR2,517.
The service station market is highly concentrated with six players selling over 99% of retail fuel. Over 60% of service stations in Denmark are unmanned. OK is the service station market leader in Denmark accounting for 700 sites around a quarter of sales. Other key players include Shell and Statoil.
At 40% Denmark has a low penetration of service station shops. Shell has the largest shop network with many sites featuring a 7-Eleven store. Statoil also has a developed shop offer providing services such as DVD rental. Just under half of service stations have car washing facilities, with Shell and Statoil the most developed car wash networks.
