Mintel, Jan 2011, Pages: 103
While the rate of college enrollment has been increasing rather steadily since 1959, when record keeping began, as noted in an April 2010 New York Times article, the rate accelerated sharply in the last decade, rising 26% from 1997 to 2007, compared to an increase of just 14% between 1987 and 1997, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. More recently, in the past two years since the onset of the “Great Recession,” community colleges especially have seen their enrollments skyrocket, up by 24% between 2007 and 2009 according to the American Association of Community Colleges.
