A Personal Loan Borrower Profile
Retail Finance Intelligence (RFI), July 2009, Pages: 29
‘The borrower’ in personal lending is an important customer in the retail finance arena. It would be beneficial for lenders to understand ‘the borrower’ as a result, but the scarce amount of research available in consumer lending makes any meaningful understanding difficult. RFI conducted four surveys with over 8,000 respondents in total. These surveys, which included both current and future borrowers, gathered responses relating to reasons behind taking out personal loans, the characteristics of these loans, customer satisfaction and research channels.
The analysis of this data provides valuable insight into ‘the borrower’ in personal lending, with findings indicating that ‘the borrower’ is difficult to view as a homogeneous group in any way, other than by the fact that they would like to be rid of their personal loans as soon as possible.
