API Sourcing in China

For years China has been one of the main places for global drug companies to source APIs and pharma intermediates or contract out the manufacturing work of such compounds. However, the fast growth of this Chinese industry experienced significant growth slowdown in the last one year or so. The financial crisis was only one of the factors to blame. It was, in fact, the severe quality incident in supply chain in which Chinese companies were involved that led to the change of raw material sourcing pattern of global pharma companies in China.
On the other hand, under the severe pressure of the current financial crisis, achieving as much cost reduction as possible has never become so critical to all pharma and biotech companies as well as generic drug makers around the world. These factors, coupled with the still low cost labor and cheap raw materials in China, determine that China still presents considerable attractions to many of these companies in the foreseeable future.
To help these companies more effectively source APIs in China, the report “API Sourcing in China” extracted, from the proprietary database of JZMed, top 150 best API suppliers in China including their API products (more than 1,400 in total).
All included API suppliers have their own company profile and are listed in alphabetic order. For each API supplier, in addition to the detailed contact information, a series of technical areas are examines including key business scope, technical capability, manufacturing facility, production scale and capacity, cGMP approval status, quality control management, products to offer, service experience and customers they have served, structure of their scientific team, years in the API supply business, etc.
Besides, all API products are classified into two groups: the one containing all APIs that have been registered with the Western regulatory authorities; the other containing those that have not been registered in the Western countries. The report also sorted out all API suppliers according to their therapeutic focus.
The report is a must-read book to all drug companies and individual professionals that are interested in sourcing APIs in China.
