The 'Company Benchmarking: The Global Top 20 Supermarkets' report compares the financial and operational strengths of the global top 20 supermarkets. The benchmarking is based on key parameters and ratios that explain, where a particular company stands against its peers.

This report compares and analyzes the global top 20 supermarkets, taking into consideration the diverse financial and operational parameters. It also captures detailed business and strategic analysis at individual company level and provides rankings that explain where a particular company stands against its peers.

Wal-Mart, the biggest supercenter in terms of revenue size, is more than three times the size of its next largest peer, Carrefour, and the gap in revenue size between these two companies continued to widen in each of the last five years. In revenue growth, excepting Tesco PLC, all companies in the top five in terms of revenue size, including Wal-Mart and Carrefour, did not find a place in the top five. Instead, Australia-based supermarket, Wesfarmers topped the list, followed by Guichard-Perrachon and Tesco PLC. For Wesfarmers, the main driver for revenue growth was the acquisition of Coles Group in FY07.
