Build Your Dreams (BYD): Power for Connected Cars and China
Research 2.0, Feb 2010, Pages: 9
This custom report looks at Build Your Dreams (BYD) after a major transition from the largest supplier of cell phone batteries to an emerging global automaker. The company has a highly ambitious and bold CEO who has attracted much attention and investment, most notably from Warren Buffett.
The publisher's research into the digitization of power has led us first into batteries and then into an emerging field they refer to as the Connected Car. This puts BYD squarely in their research sights.
For investors, BYD remains a bit of a mystery compared to its Western counterparts. From a standing start in 1995, the company grew to become the largest maker of cell phone batteries in the world by 2000. Realizing that it could go no higher there, BYD entered the automobile business in 2003, and the company has doubled its sales nearly every year since.
It is not unusual for BYD?s plans, and even some results, to be called into question. Pundits often point to failures and irresponsibly optimistic claims. However, many of the same pundits also begrudgingly admit the company “seems to make five years of progress every year.”
The publisher's intrinsic valuation suggests that the shares will be worth $10 in a year if BYD can sustain its formula of combining bold expansion plans with solid execution and results.
