Managed Print Services is a comprehensive offering of services and products which allows an external vendor to provide customers with the optimal hardcopy production capability and document workflow in terms of both effectiveness and efficiency. This goes beyond simply providing hardcopy devices, supplies, and periodic maintenance under a Cost per Copy (CPC) contract. This is an all-encompassing outsourcing of the hardcopy fleet.

There are a wide spectrum of offerings that can be considered Managed Print Services, however, in developing this analysis, the report includes the management of distributed fleets of hardcopy devices including providing equipment, and/or supplies in addition to managing the fleet deployment. Most importantly, it is more than simply providing devices under a CPC contract. The definition does exclude most Facilities Management (FM) contracts which tend to be for centralized printing deployments such as Central Reprographic Centers.
