CA Acquires 3Tera in its Drive to to Smooth Mainstream Assimilation of Cloud Computing

On Wednesday, the 24th of February, 2010, CA announced a definitive agreement to acquire 3Tera, Inc. A privately held, six-year-old company based in Aliso Viejo, California, 3Tera has only twenty employees, but supports between 80 and 90 customers, the majority of which are mid-tier MSPs, as well as a growing number of large enterprises. 3Tera’s AppLogic solution is designed to support transaction-oriented applications, such as most Web-based applications, in transitioning to highly virtualized Cloud environments.
Cloud computing and Cloud services appear to be redefining the IT management landscape in 2010, forcing IT organizations to adapt to more cost-effective, agile infrastructures, and stimulating any number of initiatives within the vendor management community. CA’s acquisition of 3Tera is highlighted in this analysis, combined with CA’s creation of an organization targeted at enabling more effective migrations towards private, community and public Cloud computing environments. The acquisition complements CA’s recent investments in acquiring Cassatt and Oblicore, and positions it well to take a lead in the race to provide a smoother assimilation of Cloud computing into the broader disciplines of IT service management.
