Wilmington, DE Market Overview
HealthLeaders Interstudy, April 2011, Pages: 43
Christiana Care Health System and Nemours Delaware Valley/Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children are expanding capacity while working overtime to strengthen the partnerships they have with physicians in an effort to secure valuable referrals. A proposed affiliation between Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware and dominant Pennsylvania insurer Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield would allow the local Blue plan to strengthen investments in technology and operate more efficiently. This alliance is not a certainty, however, because it must be approved by Delaware officials. We expect employers will continue shifting higher costs to workers through consumer-driven health plans. We also expect to see greater demands for emergency services as cuts to Medicaid benefits seem inevitable and unemployment remains high.
