Market Overview

Reliability and Overall Quality Score over Additional Features for CXOs in the Mobile Computing Products and Services Space in the United States

This research measures the preferences of C-level executives (CIOs, CEOs, presidents, directors, mid-level managers, and so on) with regard to mobile communications and computing products/services across diverse industry verticals in the United States. Out of the various mobile communication and computing products/services surveyed, all the U.S. CXOs use/own laptops/notebooks. Of all the features surveyed, reliability and overall quality are of prime importance for U.S. CXOs. Conversely, features not related to the core function of laptop/notebooks are deemed less important. It appears that U.S. CXOs want the products they use to perform as expected, and are less interested in frills. 'In U.S. CXO circles, Dell laptop/notebooks are the most widely owned, however, Apple is considered the overall best brand of laptops/notebooks,' comments Brent Iadarola, Global Research Director of the Mobile & Wireless Communications Practice at Frost & Sullivan. 'Apple also has the widest base of satisfied and loyal customers.' Unlike the case of notebook computers, the reaction toward netbooks is mixed, indicating that most CXOs have limited knowledge about them and are unsure of how they can be accommodated with the computing tools already owned.

Smartphones are viewed as appropriate for business purposes, and standard feature phones are regarded as personal use phones. For both smartphones and standard feature phones, ease of use tops the list as the most attractive feature from the point of view of U.S. CXOs. In the smartphone category, BlackBerry is the most popular brand. However, Apple’s iPhone is touted as the top brand of smartphones. As far as brand reputation and ownership are concerned, Motorola is ahead of the pack in the standard feature phone category.

Nearly eight out of ten U.S. CXOs employ Web-based collaboration tools. Ease of use and desktop sharing are the most sought after features. Interestingly, having a powerful feature set is one of the least important attributes for U.S. CXOs. Cisco Webex and Microsoft Live Meeting have the highest levels of brand awareness among U.S. CXOs. These two well-known brands also compete with each other as the top-notch brands for Web based collaboration tools. Overall, Cisco Webex is also looked upon as a top-of-the-line Web based collaboration tool, offering the best value and having a powerful feature set. However, these two features are not nearly as important as ease of use to U.S. CXOs. Citrix On-Line GotoMeeting is touted as the easiest to use. 'Cisco Webex and Citrix On-Line GotoMeeting may appear to be vying for the top spot in the web-based collaboration tools segment,' says Iadarola. 'However, Google Apps customers rate their brand highest for satisfaction and loyalty; thus, it appears that this market is prime for competition.'

U.S. CXOs rate Google as the leading location-based mobile application provider. More than 80 percent of CXOs voted Google as one of the top three brands for location-based mobile application. The prolific use of Google can be attributed to the 'free services' Google has clearly entrenched itself as the leader in this domain, and remains unchallenged with no threats in range.
