The Invisible Employee: Using Carrots to See the Hidden Potential in Everyone, 2nd Edition
John Wiley and Sons Ltd, Jan 2010, Pages: 208
Most employees feel they are invisible to their leadership. In return, they stay hidden in the corporate shadows, doing just enough to get by. Part fable, part business advice, The Invisible Employee teaches managers how to actively engage employees in order to bring out the best in them. This second edition will be rebranded to be incorporated into the very successful Carrot series of books supported by consultancy O.C. Tanner. Each title in this series has sold over 100,000 copies to date. This new edition of The Invisible Employee will include 30% new material, including the concept of 'onboarding,' or gaining early commitment from new hires, as well as data from a recent worldwide research project conducted by Towers Perrin, a global professional services firm that helps organizations improve performance. It tells the story of a group of people that live and work on an island. Learning that blending into their surroundings keeps them safe from failure, criticism and exhaustion, the group prides itself on being invisible. Invisibility is limiting, however. Nothing gets accomplished, so nothing changes for the better. And what's worse is invisibility can lead to extinction, but because this is such a rare occurrence, the group continues to ignore each other's strengths and weaknesses--until one day when a see-er (leader) is born. He clearly sees everyone's strengths and weaknesses and has a dream for how to improve things. From here, the story goes on to explain how the see-er's ability to recognize behaviors makes people visible, helping them to transform their community into a paradise.
