IBISWorld, Feb 2012, Pages: 33
Pecking order: Poultry will top the meat market as healthier lifestyles boost momentum
Chicken & Turkey Meat Production in the US
Top of the pecking order
Though a volatile industry, chicken and turkey meat production has had its share of benefits and advantages in recent years. Poultry consumption has been rising at a much faster rate than any of its competitors, including beef and pork. Health consciousness among Americans is constantly rising as more information sprouts about the dietary harms and benefits of certain types of meat. As a result, more and more consumers are switching to white meat instead of red meat.
This industry includes farms that raise broilers, turkeys and other chickens for meat production. In almost all cases, downstream meat processors and food producers supply farmers with chicks, feed and payment according to contractual agreements. In turn, farmers provide growing facilities, animal care and agricultural know-how. Revenue is recorded in the final prices farmers receive per average weight of live animal.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
